United Way kicks off fundraising

GRAND JUNCTION KKCO-Although they fell a little short of their goal last year, The United Way of Mesa County hopes to reach their 1.2 million dollar goal this year.

United Way's annual fundraising campaign doesn't kick off until next month, but this morning the Pacesetters kicked in their initial donations to the 2011 campaign.

The Pacesetters are a group of traditional donors who help set the pace for the rest of the community during the annual fundraising campaign.

The United Way of Mesa County is hopeful they'll reach their goal but understand the challenges many non profit organizations face after a long recession.

"Well the ongoing challenge is a rough economy, definitely, but I think this community has year after year come together, and realizes that it takes a whole community to work together" says Board member Mike Stahl

100 percent of the money donated to the united way of Mesa County stays right here in the Grand Valley. The United Way funds over 50 programs in Mesa County.
