What is an Audiologist?
Audiologists are professionals who evaluate people with hearing and balance disorders. They work with medical professionals in finding direction for the treatment of these disorders.
Audiologists have specific training in the fitting and support of hearing aids and can offer counseling in dealing with hearing loss. With technological changes as they are, audiologists are the professionals most trusted in the fitting of hearing aids and assistive listening devices.
It is estimated that 25 million Americans have some degree of hearing loss. Only one in five actually seeks treatment for this communication disorder. Fortunately, with technological changes, hearing aids have improved immensely over the past few years. Patients perceive improvements in quiet and noise with the use of today's hearing aid systems.
Hearing loss is not just a disorder associated with aging. It is estimated that 1 in 1,000 babies are born with hearing loss. It is never too early to test a child. Even babies and small children can be evaluated and fit with hearing aids.
"I've been fitting hearing aids for 23 years. My family started a hearing aid company in Pennsylvania in 1975 when I was eight years old, where it is still in business today."
