Dozens of employers looking to hire students on May 4

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- Graduation is approaching and many high school seniors are looking to enter the workforce.

Students looking for jobs might be able to find one at the School to Work Alliance Program (S.W.A.P.) Youth Job Fair on May 4.

More than 40 employers will offer positions in jobs from retail and food service, to truck driving and drilling companies.

About 300 students attended last year, but organizers hope even more this year, especially since there is no school on the day of the event.

This job fair is just for students ages 14 to 21.

“I think this makes them a lot more comfortable competing against their peers as opposed to attending a job fair that had adults as well. We really try to groom them for this job fair so that they can leave and be successful in obtaining a job,” said Kehau Martinez, a spokesperson for S.W.A.P.

Students who plan to participate should bring their resumes, cover letters, contact information and dress for success.

The event is May 4 at the Mesa County Workforce Center from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
