MCSO: Man arrested for Palisade murder

MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KKCO) -- Authorities said a man was arrested Sunday night in Aurora for an October murder in Palisade.

Matthew Mitchell, 37, of Littleton, was taken into custody by the Aurora Police Department in relation to the murder of Paul Davis, 51, according to the Mesa County Sheriff's Office.

Mitchell was arrested on a warrant for first degree murder out of Mesa County, according to authorities. He also faces drug related charges with the Aurora Police Department and traffic charges from Jefferson County.

Officials said he is currently being held in the Arapahoe County jail

Law enforcement was called just before midnight on Oct.16 to a home the 3600 block of G 7/10 Road, just south of I-70. They found Davis dead on the scene from a gunshot wound to the stomach and the chest. .

Investigators said the motive in the crime may be drug-related because of a very large marijuana grow operation found during the investigation.

The sheriff's office said the investigation into the homicide of Paul Davis is still ongoing.
