MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- The Mesa County Health Department said 125 people have already been hospitalized with the flu this season.
The total is higher than cumulative total during the 2014-15 influenza season, which had been the highest in the past five years.
"This is notable because influenza season runs through May," said Katie Goddeyne, spokesperson for the Mesa County Health Department. "So we are seeing higher activity than any of the past five years, and still have 3 months to go."
Goddeyne said there have been 6 influenza outbreaks this season, all happening in 2017.
According to the health department, there were only 49 flu hospitalizations between Oct.4, 2015, and May 28, 2016.
