EAST ORCHARD MESA, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- Investigators said a large brush fire in East Orchard Mesa last week started after a controlled burn the previous day was not completely extinguished.

The fire was reported in the 3400 block of C 1/2 Road, just east of 34 Road early Thursday morning.

Fire officials with the Central Orchard Mesa Volunteer Fire Department said a late evening breeze blew embers or sparks into a large wood pile.

The fire then spread to trees and a nearby barn, according to the Mesa County Sheriff's Office.

Firefighters said no one was hurt.

Crews had an upper hand of the fire as the sun started to rise.
