GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- One of Colorado's most gorgeous hiking trails could be in jeopardy of closing until peak season.
Rangers at the Hanging Lake Trail in Glenwood Springs found graffiti spray painted on rocks, trees and other trail infrastructure last week.
Damages are estimated to be about $3000.
The Forest Service, which manages the land, is working with authorities to track down the suspect(s).
The district ranger for the area said vandals and people who blatantly disregard the rules have no business being on National Forest Property.
The incident, along with cases of illegal parking and hikers swimming or walking on the lake's famous log, could force the Forest Service to close the trail until more rangers are on staff.
