GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- While the JUCO baseball World Series has come to an end, a few players made their mark in the Valley, but not in a good way.

Teammates from McLennan Community College in Texas have been cited for reportedly vandalizing the Colorado National Monument.

It happened on the Alcove Nature Trail. Written in chalk, it says, "Highlanders, 2017 and JUCO."

Arlene Jackson, a spokesperson for with the Colorado National Monument, said, unfortunately, vandalism happens frequently. She wants the community help in stopping the problem.

“Be aware of what's going on around them, if they feel comfortable telling people, 'hey this is illegal’ or at least letting us know,” said Jackson.

Head Coach Mitch Thompson said when he asked who did it, players immediately took responsibility.

Coach Thompson said they saw other graffiti in the same spot and didn't know it was illegal.
