MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- Firefighters are reminding people to be careful because it is so dry outside and sometimes windy.
The warning comes after a fire at the Mesa County landfill Sunday afternoon.
Firefighters say the plumes of smoke could be seen throughout the Grand Valley.
When crews arrived, the fire was burning at the surface of the landfill and was about half an acre in size.
Workers there used heavy equipment to help move trash, so firefighters could access the fire and put it out.
The fire department has not said how the fire started.
