COLORADO-UTAH BORDER (KKCO/KJCT)-- A robbery suspect is in custody after a pursuit involving multiple law enforcement agencies near the state border.
It all started just after 7:30 Monday night, when authorities got a report of a robbery at the Fruita CO-OP on Hwy 6 and 50. They later caught up with a pickup truck the two suspects were believed to be driving in on I-70 in Utah.
Officials said the suspects started running when their truck broke down near Westwater. Investigators used K9 units and SWAT teams to track down one of the suspects. He was taken into custody on unknown charges. His name was not immediately released.
The suspect was then taken to St. Mary's Hospital for a medical condition, according to the Mesa County Sheriff's Office.
The description of the other suspect is pretty vague at this point, according to authorities. No word on if he has been taken into custody yet.
Investigators are working to find out more about the two men.
"The background of the suspect is unknown at this time," said Sgt. Stoffel, a spokesperson for the Mesa County Sheriff's Office. "Investigators will work to identify exactly what they were doing here in Western Colorado and Eastern Utah and what ties they may have to the area."
There are several agencies working together on the case, including the Grand County Sheriff's Office in Utah, the Utah Highway Patrol, Colorado State Patrol and the Fruita Police Department.
The Mesa County Sheriff's Office said they believe there is no immediate danger to the public.
The search for the suspect ended around 1 a.m. The Fruita Police Department is now leading the investigation.
