GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) A Mesa County Sheriff's deputy was recently named Narcotics Investigator of the Year by the Colorado Drug Investigators Association.

“He has gotten better every day since he’s been here. The sheriff’s office not only, he’s also a team leader on our SWAT team, so he doesn’t just investigate narcotics, he is also a tactical expert with us,” said Captain Todd Rodwell with law operations division at the sheriff's office.

Deputy Mike Miller received the award...the first of it's kind.

“I think it’s mostly to recognize that this is difficult work, it’s all drug distributors. Drug traffickers are always getting better at their skill, like it or not they are,” Rodwell said.

The award was given based on the number of drugs, dealers, traffickers and cases the investigator took off the street.

“Very lucky to have him, I think everybody in the community should be proud that someone that is so recognized and so talented at a job among a ton of other talented people," Rodwell said. "He’s the best of the best, he’s here in our community helping keep drugs off the street."
