GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- Local law enforcement is helping kids in need this holiday season.
“I get to shop and finally get Christmas presents for my family,” said Reyna Contreras.
It's the Grand Junction Police Department’s annual Shop With a Cop. Officers were joined by Mesa County Sheriff's deputies and Colorado State Patrol troopers at the Mesa Mall Thursday. Each year, one fifth grader in need from each city school is chosen. It’s a chance for kids to see the person behind the badge.
“We're human beings we have families and this gives us a chance to work with a kid who may not have dealt with us and shows them we can step down from our roles and work with you,” said Officer Dustin Bovee.
They will also be taking 5th graders to the Rimrock Walmart location on Tuesday.
