GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- While many safely celebrated the New Year, some started 2018 on the wrong foot.
“Throughout the state, we had apparently 25 DUIs for Colorado State Patrol," said Trooper Glen Hunter.
At least six of those DUIs were in Mesa County -- and one of those arrests was a hit and run.
“Last night did seem to be higher than normal," said Hunter. "I don’t know the numbers exactly, but it did appear to be a good night to have six DUIs in one night.”
Colorado State Patrol had extra officers on duty in anticipation of the holiday.
“Last night we had four regular duty officers and one extra officer that was actually paid overtime to work the shift," said Hunter. "The one officer that was working overtime did end up arresting three DUIs himself last night.”
Last words from Trooper Hunter?
"Don't drink and drive."
