GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- District 51 Superintendent Ken Haptonstall released a new organizational chart for the District on Tuesday in front of board members.
He said it's part of an effort to implement the D-51 learning model, but it also can spell extra cash for the district.
Some in director positions in D-51 may need to look for a new job.
"Basically, at the end of the day, we'll have fewer positions than before," said Emily Schockley, a spokesperson for School District 51.
But knowing just how many fewer jobs there will be is complicated. Some positions will be eliminated and some will simply have new titles, but the district said there about the same amount of positions after restructuring.
There are currently 11 executive director positions, but eight will cease to exist after this summer. The district is creating two new regional director positions, an executive director of implementation and an executive director of sites.
"We might have a lot of the same people, we might have a few new places, it won't actually be much of a net gain or loss. It's a matter of kind of switching around those titles so it fits what we're going to be doing," said Shockley.
The district said this new organization will help the feeder system work better since directors will be regional instead of being solely for elementary, middle and high schools.
"The difference is we won't have as many executive directors, so titles are changing, positions are changing, and we'll be having fewer people at the very top," said Shockley.
Everyone at the administrative director level, except the technology director, will have to reapply for their jobs.
"Basically if you're at the school level, this is probably not going to touch you," said Shockley.
With fewer director-level positions, the district is hoping to save money, but they aren't really sure how much they'll be able to save.
"Hopefully, if there are any savings left over, we will reinvest that money, and we can use it for things like transportation, curriculum, technology and other things that affect the classroom," said Shockley.
D-51 already has eight positions posted online for internal and external candidates. They said they will start interviewing at the beginning of February and hope to have everyone hired by April.
