GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- Family, friends and law enforcement officers from across Colorado will say goodbye to a fallen deputy on Friday.

Many people across the state will be wearing blue on Friday in honor of slain Adams County Sheriff's Office Deputy Heath Gumm. He was killed in the line of duty last week.

Deputy Gumm and other deputies were responding to a call about an assault in Thornton, Colorado when shots were fired.

Thousands of men and women in blue are expected to turn out for the funeral today, including several people from the Grand Junction Police Department and the Mesa County Sheriff's Office.

A law enforcement procession will follow the family motorcade to Flatirons Community Chuch in Lafayette, which is near Boulder. The procession will take place along I-25 in the northern Denver metro area. The funeral is open to the public.

The suspect in the case is behind bars, facing murder charges.
