Glacier Ice arena inspiring next generation of Olympians

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- Olympic athletes are busy slicing, skating and soaring for the gold medal in figure skating this week.

Making memories with each twist and turn, and inspiring the next generation.

Glacier Ice Arena staff say they have seen a significant increase in their daily customers due to the Olympics.

Their figure skating director, Martin Forrest, says his students are pushing themselves to the limit, with the goal of making team USA one day.

"Oh its huge, they go home they watch the Olympics and then they come in here all excited and they want to be like the kids they saw on TV, I mean that's their role models, you know it's the people they look up to, they want to be that person and so yeah they are working twice as hard this time of year,” said figure skating director & coach for Glacier Ice Arena, Martin Forrest.

Martin says he almost made it onto the British Olympic team in the late 90's but says he couldn't go without more funding.

Glacier will be having a figure skating exhibition for their students Feb. 24 at 5:45 p.m.
