Local parks and recreation departments need more workers

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- The parks and recreation departments in Grand Junction and Fruita have some jobs available.

The Grand Junction side is looking to hire about 30 full-time seasonal positions, but they're not seeing nearly as many applications for jobs like park maintenance, weed abatement and sports facilities as they normally do.

"It is becoming an issue this year. It seems like our pool is down from what we had in the past. Normally, for seasonal positions, we will get anywhere from 120 to 150 applicants," said Mike Vendegna, the Grand Junction Parks Superintendent.

Vendegna said they've only seen about 30 applicants.

The Fruita parks department said they're in need of qualified lifeguards.
