Beloved sculpture returns to Downtown Grand Junction after maintenance

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- The ‘Shell Boys’ are back in Downtown Grand Junction, getting reinstalled after weeks of much need TLC.

It’s that beloved water fountain sculpture of two boys holding seashells outside Main Street Bagels.

It was originally installed back in 1992, but was taken down earlier this year because of the amount of calcium buildup and corrosion that had affected it.

After spending nearly a month being cleaned up in Paonia, it's back with a fresh coat of paint, wax, and sealant.

"I'm really pleased that the town cares enough that the sculpture is back to its original state,” said Gary Hauschulz, former member of Art on the Corner.

The statue won the People's Choice Award back in 1992, where it became a permanent piece for art on the corner.
