GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- The Health Department said that flu season typically runs October through March.
Officials said the vaccination usually takes about two weeks to take full effect and recommend adults get the flu shot now.
Nasal spray is no longer being used, as it was proven to be less effective than the actual vaccination, according to health officials.
Elderly people are offered a stronger dose of the flu vaccine because many times they have weaker immune systems -- this also available at the health department.
"It’s important to start early in the season so you have coverage throughout the entire season. so we are not only keeping people healthy we are keeping the community healthy,” said Allison Sanchez, Public Clinic Manager.
The clinic is Oct. 17 and Oct. 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Health department.
Be sure to bring health insurance information. Those with no insurance are still able to get the vaccination. The Health Department said cost should not be a barrier.
This clinic is for adults only. Call the health department to make arrangements for children.
