GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) It seems as if there is a day or month for everything now. Well May 19th was no different with wear your life jacket to work day.
It's a day that Colorado Parks and Wildlife wants everyone to take part in.
The whole point of the day is to show people that life jackets can be versatile and comfy.
Nationwide, drowning was the cause of death for approximately 76% of fatal boat accidents. of those, 86% were not wearing life jackets.
"You could always have unpredictable circumstances, you can get cramps, you can have some sort of medical situation that occurs where as if you had a life jacket on it could save your life," said Lorie Martin. She is the senior aquatic biologist for Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
This event serves as a fun and educational way to kick off National Safe Boating week.
That starts on the 20th and ends on the 26th.
