Early peaches being picked in Palisade

Palisade, CO (KKCO) Peach Season is underway in Palisade. It's the early varieties, not the big, juicy peaches coming off the trees just yet.

Clark Family Orchards posted, "Yes, it is true!!! We picked our first peaches of the 2017 season!! Early peaches are here!!!" on a Facebook page.

Bruce Talbott, of Talbott's Mountain Gold told KUSA-TV in Denver, the very early peaches will start to be picked next week. Talbott said he expects the peach crop to be about 85 percent of capacity for Mesa County, and in Delta County – it will be much lighter.

These early varieties are usually not shipped out to grocers, the best place to get them is at a fruit stand in Palisade or a local farmer's market.

KKCO 11 News is a proud sponsor of the Downtown Farmers Market., which kicks off June 22nd along Main Street in Grand Junction. The weekly event is Thursdays from 5:30-8:30.

We're also excited to announce our partnership with the Fruita Farmer's Market, Saturday mornings at Civic Center Park in Fruita beginning June 24th.
