GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) Friends and family are remembering Kiera Quintana who was shot and killed in the Orchard Mesa City Market parking lot early Saturday morning.

Friends of Quintana, 17, said she was in marching band at Palisade high school. Allie Smith said it's unbelievable what happened to her friend Kiera.

Smith said she was feeling a mix of anger and sadness following her friend's death.

"She was one of the most compassionate people I've ever met. She was very friendly and outgoing and always complimenting everyone and smiling and giving everyone hugs," Smith said.

Smith said she met Quintana three years ago in marching band. She said it was through long and tough practices where their friendship grew.

Quintana was someone everyone loved, Smith said.

"I just want everyone to know that even if you weren't her best friend she cared about everybody and it wasn't hard to see that she was such a loving person," Smith said.

Smith added she is shocked about the loss of her friend.

There are no details on what caused this incident to occur that night.
