Head shaving raises nearly $10,000 for childhood cancer research

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- Local volunteers went bald to raise money to find the best treatments for kids with cancer.

Thursday was the 3rd annual event at Chatfield Elementary School where 50 people shaved their head.

St. Baldrick's Foundation is the largest private funder of childhood cancer research grants. Donations raised at events like this have made it possible for St. Baldrick's to fund more than $232 million in research.

St. Baldrick’s says every 2 minutes a child is diagnosed with cancer worldwide, and in the US, one in five kids diagnosed won't survive. The event raised nearly $10,000.
