GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- The open-enrollment period for Prescription Drug Plans (PDP), Medicare Advantage Plans, and Medicare Cost Plans is Oct. 15 through Dec. 7.
A seminar in Grand Junction on Tuesday aiming to help those seeking Medicare answers was nearly at capacity.
Medicare is a federal health insurance program for those 65 years of age and older. It is often confused with Medicaid, which is for people of all ages whose income and resources are insufficient to pay for health care.
The initial enrollment period for seniors is three months before their 65th birthday to three months after their birthday.
"Medicare is impossible to understand, don't consider yourself stupid. Part of the reason I’m here is I went on Medicare and I didn't understand it,” said Joh Ahern, a SHIP Navigator.
The Mesa County RSVP office is offering one-on-one counseling this Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to assist residents in choosing a plan that's right for them.
This event gives you an opportunity to meet with a SHIP (Senior Health Insurance Assistance Project) navigator one-on-one.
The Mesa County RSVP office hosts these Medicare 101 seminars are the first Wednesday of every month from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The 101 seminars are for people looking to enroll.
They also have Medicare 202 group seminar for people already enrolled, once every two months, typically on the second Wednesday of the month. The 202 seminar are for people who are already in Medicare.
