PALISADE, Colo. (KKCO) -- Starting this spring, there will be another option for a place to stay in Palisade.
“By late afternoon, you are ready to go recharge and relax before you have dinner, and the limited lodging that’s here fills ups. Everyone has to turn people away,” said Keith Ehlers, the owner of the soon-to-be Palisade Base Camp RV resort.
Ehlers has plans to turn a piece of property in wine country into a campground.
“It's not about, ‘come to Base Camp you'll never want to leave,’ instead it's, ‘come to Palisade, and we have a great place for you to stay,’” said Ehlers.
Ehlers said the 14.5-acre property is going to have something for everyone--about 70 RV hook ups, 19 tent sites by the river, more than a dozen cabins and about three suites in an existing house on the property.
Ehlers said people come to Palisade because of it's diversity, which leads to a kind of diversity in the lodging he wants to offer.
“It’s on the Fruit and Wine Byway, this is a perfect product for that market,” said Meyeraan. “So there is going to be an audience there.”
The campground will include a pool, hot tub, pet park, and kid’s playground.
“Any kind of development in regard to tourism will really help the whole community,” said Meyeraan.
