Arrest made, victim identified in accidental shooting

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- UPDATE: The Mesa County Coroner's Office has identified Micha Dancy, 26, as the victim in the shooting Thursday night.

He died of a gunshot wound, and the manner of death was homicide according to the release from the coroner's office.

The Grand Junction Police Department arrested Robert Pickford, 24, for manslaughter. Officials say the investigation of this incident is still active.

Original story: A man is dead on Thursday evening following an accidental shooting, according to the Grand Junction Police Department.

Police responded to a report of shots fired around 9:30 p.m. They responded to the 2100 block of North 17th Circle.

Officers arrived on scene and transported an adult male to the police department for further questioning. That adult is reported to be the man who called in the shooting. Once officials arrived on scene, they pronounced an adult male dead.

Heidi Davidson, a spokesperson for the police department said they believe the male who called it in is the one who did the accidental shooting.

The scene will be secured overnight, and the coroner will determine a cause of death.

No charges have been filed and no arrests have been made at this point.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
