GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) -- Business is booming in the Grand Valley, according to new reports out by Colorado Mesa University.
CMU's Mesa County Economic Update shows that unemployment for the 4th quarter of 2017 was down from the year before, and the county collected nearly 11.6 percent more in sales tax.
The report's author expects these trends to continue at least for the short term.
"Along with that we are seeing wages move up in the area as well year-over-year," said Nathan Perry at Colorado Mesa University. "Specifically we saw a big bump in the natural gas industry where employment spiked by almost 39 percent year-over-year."
In their report, Montrose County saw unemployment go down year to year, too, with a smaller sales tax increase.
