GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. In today's day and age, you get just about every piece of important information from some form of social media. For Cuba Bess, his news came from Twitter.

"5 minutes later he calls me and says guess what.... I saw on twitter the Rockies drafted me in the 39th round, it was a great feeling, overwhelming, I'm excited for him and I couldn't be more proud"

Cuba knew at a young age that his was something that he wanted to pursue.

" pretty much my whole life, since i was like 3 it was a goal and I worked hard to make it happen but I didn't think it would happen out of high school"

His father, also a former MLB draft selection, saw Cuba's love for the game at a young age.

" at the age of ten months he was swinging a bat, he's learned to love the game over the years and we have always been supportive that way"

He really noticed the talent, as Cuba was prepping for his senior year.

" he was visiting in California in a place like this , I'm going, his hands are a lot quicker the sound is different coming off his bat, we started talking about goals and stuff like that and maybe he should try pro baseball as a goal and not a dream, he was on board and here we are"

That swing, lead to an all-state selection as well as Cuba being drafted 1,160th overall in the 39th round by the Colorado Rockies.

"not too many catchers, the Rockies are a good organization they have a couple good catchers up there right now, but statwise with not a lot of catchers being drafted is pretty sweet"

Even with a favorable draft, Cuba still has an offer to play for Grand Canyon, the decision to go pro or to college is something he isn't taking lightly.

"pros of going to college, getting an education, I wont get drafted till my junior year, I can go there work on my catching and hitting and everything....playing pro ball your doing it for a job, getting money, doing it for a living, you just have to earn your paycheck, I probably wont be able to play college ball if I were to go pro and ya know, stopped"
