Over the next 45 days the company FieldTurf will be working to upgrade Stocker Stadium with new turf and goals posts.
The target date to have everything complete is August 1st.
The project will cost $516,000. The Parks Improvement Advisory Board was given a $200,000 grant by the Mesa County Mineral Lease District to go towards the project. CMU, District 51 and the City of Grand Junction picked up the remaining balance.
FieldTurf is the same company creates turf fields for various NFL teams.
“It's a two-layer system that’s got sand and rubber,” Grand Junction Sports Facilities Supervisor Mark Mancuso says. “And it really plays a lot more like natural turf. Athletes enjoy the way that this feels way better rather than just a traditional all-rubber infield system. We felt like FieldTurf with this two-layer technology was a good product. a good safe product and something they could use."
Stocker Stadium will be closed to the public during construction..
