Today was the first fall scrimmage for Colorado Mesa football and it couldn’t have been a much nicer day.
It was the first game like environment of the fall for head coach Russ Martin and CMU football.
The scrimmage featured the first string offense going up against the first team defense and early on the offense had the upper hand . Jonathon Beverly was impressive in the back field. He broke off a 48 yard run to set the offense up for the score early in the scrimmage.
At times CMU ran at least 4 quarterbacks in and out of rotation with the first team offense, trying to get the underclassmen some experience.
The one thing that wasn’t lacking in the first scrimmage was emotion and the pads were definitely popping all practice.
This is only the first fall practice of the year for the Mavs.
They will be back on the field for two more scrimmages. The next one will be Thursday, August 17th at 7 P.M.
And the final fall scrimmage will be held on the 22nd of august at 7 O’clock as well.
One of the final two scrimmages will be held at Stocker stadium, but which one hasn’t been decided yet.
All the scrimmages are open to the public and fans are encouraged to come out and watch this year’s Mavs before the season opener against Western State at home on the 31st.
