The No. 17 Colorado Mesa football team went on the road for the first time this season and came away with a hard fought 24-10 win over the Chadron State Eagles to move to 2-0 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.
The Maverick bend but don't break defense was on hand in full force. They allowed 515 yards of offense including 459 through the air but gave up only one touchdown and one field goal on the day. Chadron State ran 98 plays and threw the ball 73 times.
The Maverick offense tallied 387 yards of offense including 192 yards on the ground.
Josh Brown led the wide receivers with a career-high nine catches for 116 yards.
Colorado Mesa will return home for a September 16 showdown with Colorado School of Mines in the battle for the Nyikos Cup.
