Fruita Monument came into Thursday nights matchup as the No. 5 ranked team in class 4A but, Central gave them all they could handle. The Wildcats eventually came out on top, 21-20.
Central jumped on top first as Ryan Weller found Trey Ehlers on a 41 yard touchdown pass. That made it 6-0 after the missed extra point.
At half Fruita Monument led, 14-12. The Central Warriors would not be fazed coming out of the half. Joey Estep had a two-yard touchdown run with 10:33 left to go in the 4th quarter and the two-point conversion was good. The Warriors were back on top, 20-14.
On the next Warriors offensive possession Landon Brown picked off a pass and took it all the way to house for the touchdown. With the extra point the Wildcats led 21-20 with just under 8 minutes to go.
The defense would hold out the rest of the way.
Fruita Monument improves to 5-0 on the year and Central falls to 1-3.
