Grand Junction fell to Montrose in three straight sets (25-21, 25-18, 25-21).
The loss drops the Tigers to 4-9 overall and 1-4 in league play. Montrose improves to 6-7 and 2-2 in league play.
Grand Junction held a pregame ceremony for junior varsity coach Tammy Wells who passed away unexpectedly last Tuesday. She was 47 years old.
The team put flowers at the end of the Tigers' bench while members of the program said special words about Wells.
Daughter Ashley Wells coached the JV team in Tammy's honor and earned the victory.
Head coach and husband Jeff Wells was grateful for the overwhelming support.
"There's been an incredible outpouring from the community," Wells said. "She was loved. Tonight we saw that. Of course that's going to affect the players before they get on the court because they had to go through that. This community loved her so much and they showed their support tonight. We appreciate that."
