The Grand Junction Tigers went 1-4 in their non-conference part of the season, but Thursday was a new start taking on Greeley West.
The Spartans didn't make it easy on Grand Junction jumping out to the early 14-0 lead and eventually holding on for the 20-7 win.
The first two touchdowns for Greeley West came courtesy of DJ Starks as the junior added two rushing touchdowns in the first quarter.
Grand Junction got on the scoreboard in the second quarter as Clay Payne punched it in from one yard out to make it 14-7. The Tigers looked like they had tied it as time expired on a beautiful pass from Payne to Camden Dottson, but he was called down on the one yard line.
The Grand Junction offense could never really get going in the second half as they failed to get on the scoreboard. With the loss the Tigers fall to 1-5 on the season, while Greeley West improves to 4-2.
