The second half yet again wasn't pretty for Colorado Mesa football, but the Mavericks pulled out the 49-37 win over Black Hills State on Saturday.
Esytin Salum was the man offensively for CMU rushing for 84 yards and three scores, and through the air he was 15-of-27 for 275 yards and three touchdown.
Blake Nelson was the man on the defensive side of the ball, having the best game of his career. He had a career-high three and a half sacks. The senior also blocked a PAT attempt and finished with a team high eight total tackles.
To start the season penalties have haunted the Mavericks, and today was no better getting flagged 13 times for 162 yards.
CMU with the win improves to 5-1 on the year and now will be on the road next weekend taking on Dixie State on Saturday.
