In the first two years of Eystin Salum’s career playing football for Colorado mesa, he was used as a utility player. Now as a junior he is one of the most feared quarterbacks in the country.
He is this week’s athlete of the week.
Eystin’s stats are more than impressive so far this season.
The junior has scored 28 touchdowns this year, which includes over 2,000 yards through the air and he is nearing the thousand yard mark on the ground with two games left to go in the regular season.
“Eystin really bring some extra dynamics because he’s got great feet. He can be a very dynamic runner, but he throws the football really well. And also understands our passing game, “said head coach Russ Martin.
And for Salum it’s about trusting his instincts
“For me it’s just going out there and doing it to the best of my ability and having fun doing it and trying to make the right reads,” said Salum.
Eystin and the Mavericks sit at 8-1 on season and were ranked 15th in the latest division two rankings. The accolades Salum receives are nice but the junior is more worried about the team.
“We are taking things one game at a time. We got three regular season games left, and we have to win those and we will get our entry into the playoffs. Then from there it’s any man’s game and the goal from there is to win that national championship of course, “said Salum.
