The Mavericks kept things close in the first half, but Dallas Baptist pulled away in the 2nd on their way to the 86-62 win over CMU in the D2 Challenge on Saturday night.
The Mavericks fell to 0-2 for the weekend and the young season. Offensively CMU received 18 points and five boards from Emilio Acedo and 15 points, six rebounds and five steals from Connor Nichols. However, the turnover bug bit the Mavs once again, they committed 26 turnovers. The defense was good for the Patriots holding CMU to only 35 percent shooting from the floor.
Colorado Mesa will be in Gunnison next weekend facing Midwestern State and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical out of Arizona at the Western State Tournament next Friday and Saturday.
