Grand Junction girls basketball picked up their first win of the season with a 43-30 victory over Mullen at the ThunderRidge-Castle View Tip-Off Tournament over the weekend.
"I'm just excited to see how we're going to be able to take that and grow and just keep working for it," junior forward Mackenzie Younker says. "I don't want us to settle for what we have accomplished. I want us to keep building. I'm excited to be able to see what we're going to be able to do as a team."
Last season the Tigers didn't earn their first win until January 14.
With the 1-2 start Sam Provenza's team is on pace to surpass lasts season's four-win total.
"Those kids need to remember how to win," Provenza says. "That's something we don't talk about a lot. But kids need to know how to win. I think they felt pretty good about that win. Their expectations are still as high as they've always been. We're going to push them a little harder then we already do and we're going to continue to keep getting better. As young as they are we know they're going to continue to rise up."
The Tigers will take on Carbon at 3 P.M. on Thursday in game one of the Wildcat Classic at Fruita Monument High School.
