Last season Grand Junction sophomore Dawson Collins fell short in his quest for a state championships, but in 2018 he would not be denied.
He is this week's Athlete of the Week.
For the second time in Collin's career he found himself once again in the state championship match, but this time around a matter of inches changed the outcome.
It looked like he had lost the match in the first overtime , but the take down would be reversed sending it to overtime. Collins took advantage capturing his first state title at 113 pounds.
"It feels pretty good to have my name in gold above the state champion symbol. It was the closest or hardest match I've ever had," said Collins.
Collins accomplished his goal this season, but he was also a key reason why the Grand Junction Tigers brought home their first team championships since 1994.
"You know I am glad it was with the class that it was with. We've all pushed ourselves so hard, its just been such a hard working team. So, I am just glad that they got it in the end," said Collins.
