JUCO World Series: Chipola aims to repeat

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) Chipola (FL) is back at the JUCO World Series looking for a repeat performance of the their 2017 national championship.

In 20 seasons under head coach Jeff Johnson Chipola has won two national championships, 13 conference titles and five district titles.

However, the program hasn't won back-to-back national titles.

"For me, the thing more than back to back is getting this team an opportunity to win one and these kids a chance to experience what it feels like to win a national championship and win the last game of the season," said head coach Jeff Johnson.

Chipola will take on No. 1 Walters St. (TN) in the first round of the tournament at 7:30 P.M. on Saturday at Suplizio Field. The Indians and Senators split their two meetings this season.

"It's going to be hard," said returner Max Guzman. "No one said it's going to be easy, just like in states. It's just to have fun and play as a team and buy in. Everybody buy in as a team and as a family."
