FRUITA, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) Over the past three years at Fruita Monument high school , Zach Rush has turned into a star on the football field and baseball diamond. That makes this year a very important one.
For the past two season Rush has been the starting quarterback for the Wildcats leading them to a combined 17-6 record , but his work on the baseball field cannot be ignored. The shortstop led Fruita Monument with a .544 batting average and only committed seven errors in over 50 chances on the field.
"It has been really good cool getting to meet a bunch of different teammates from both sports. The past couple of years have been a fun ride and I couldn't of pictured it going any better,"said Rush.
Zach has the option to either go the football or baseball route in college, but to help him make his decision he went back to the simple things.
"When it comes to football, I love the atmosphere of the sport and the whole body that surrounds the game,"said Rush.
Rush will play both sports during his senior season with the Wildcats, but it is just one sports he will focus on after he graduates.
"I ended up receiving an offer in mid-spring to go play football at the University of Northern Colorado. After we went to a football camp up there, the day after I called up coach Collins and Boyer and said I would like to verbally commit there," said Rush.
Zach and Fruita Monument Football will kick off their 2018 season on August 24th on the road at Pueblo West.
