Athlete of the Week: JD Clifford

For a freshman to step up and make a big impact on the varsity level can be a challenge but for Fruita Monument's JD Clifford he taken it all in stride.

He is this week’s athlete of the week.

Off the field JD Clifford looks like an average 15 year old, but on the pitch he is one of the most feared scorers on the western slope.

Having a senior brother on the team certainly didn’t hurt JD either

“I basically get a personal coach and he is basically my offensive coach for the season. He is definitely gotten me to the point I am now”, said Clifford.

And his older brother has nothing but praise for him

“He can take the team and carry them on his back when it matters most. So I think that is impressive”, said Nic Clifford.

The freshman leads the Wildcats with 36 goals and in a loaded Mountain league ranks third amount scorers on the Western Slope.

Even though JD is only a freshman it has always been a dream of his to play at the next level.

“I am definitely looking forward to going to college and playing somewhere that is one of my goals for life so”, said Clifford.
