Booze and security approved for Country Jam

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - It's official, Country Jam will be get its liquor license and part of the security for the event will again be provided by Mesa County Sheriff's Office Deputies.

Monday, the Mesa County Commissioners approved both of these agenda items so Country Jam continues to have a fun and safe atmosphere.

However, in an effort to not use all up all of the Sheriff's Office workforce, the number of deputies on duty this year will be 35, compared to 49 last year.

Lt. Wayne Weyler with the Sheriff's Office says, "When you have a venue of 35,000 people with a lot of alcohol, it's important to have a lot of security. Although it's been the Sheriff's Office in the last five years to allow private security to take over more of that function."

Country Jam is also working with the County to allow County Health Department officials to hand out information during the event on safe sex and planned parenting.
