New Commissioner

The office of Secretary of State in Colorado covers many areas, from elections to information technology. The two candidates in this year's race are different in character, but on the same page in many aspects of how the office should be run.

One is a defense attorney turned State Senate Majority Leader. The other took a hiatus in 2005 from his State Treasurer position to redeploy to Iraq. But when it comes to the office of Secretary of State, fair elections are at the top for these two candidates.

Along with an elections division, there are four other areas of responsibility for secretary of state. These Include business licensing
administration and information technology divisions. It's the latter which Democratic candidate Ken Gordon says he will focus on and is vital for fair elections and maintaining the public trust.

Along with making sure elections in Colorado are on the up and up, Republican candidate Mike Coffman says he will make the lives of non–profit organizations a little easier.

With current state offices being held by both men, the candidates each say they have the knowledge of how politics work in Colorado. In addition they say it is their personal backgrounds that separate the two.
