House District 54
Making Your Vote Count
Reporter: Natalie Pallone

Water and how to deal with illegal immigration are just some of the issues facing residents in District 54, but the the candidates vying for the seat in the State House of Representatives want to help find solutions.

Democrat Richard Alward is a self employed biologist. Republican Steve King is a complex crimes investigator with the Mesa County Sheriff's Office. Despite their different backgrounds, both candidates for House District 54 have one thing in common, they want to problem solve for Western Colorado.

King says he takes solving problems not just one case at a time, but with three kids he is very interested in solving quality of life issues for his children. Whether it is education issues, border issues, economic issues. Quality of life type problems that you can be solved at the House of Representatives.

Alward says his scientific background will really make him unique among the legislators in Denver in that he does not just look for a solution. First you must recognize the problem and classify it. Then, solutions open up.

Both candidates realize that if elected there is a lot of work to do.

District 54 House Representatives are responsible for parts of Mesa and Delta Counties.
