HS Football: (13) Delta's deep post-season run comes to an end in 3A semifinals

DELTA, Colo. (KKCO) Delta has been the statewide surprise in the CHSAA football playoffs, not just in 3A, but across all division.

Saturday they hosted number seven Silver Creek, an offensive powerhouse and last year's state champion.

But as a 13 seed in the semifinals, it seemed like something would eventually have to give.

The Raptors were able to secure the lead late and hold on to advance to the state championship game by a final score of 28-17.

It's still tremendous progress for the Panthers, who advance the farthest in the postseason under head coach Ben Johnson, even though it didn't end like they would have liked it to.

"The kids just enjoyed it so much," Johnson said. "They came out, worked real hard every day and it's tough for them to end like this, but they fought real hard, and they just made more plays than us today."

Delta finishes the season at 9-4, the most wins they've had since 2009 in Johnson's first year.
