MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KKCO) - Only eligible electors who reside within the town limits of Palisade will be eligible to vote on the following issue.
Reasons set forth in petition for demanding recall:
We feel that Mayor David Walker has acted inappropriately during an incident involving citizens of the Town of Palisade on February 26, 2010, Mr. Walker made threatening statements to close down the Livery Saloon, based on the hostility he supposedly encountered from citizens in the business that day.
Mr. Walker stated that he was capable of shutting down the business because he had the power to do so as Mayor. The police were involved and interviewed several individuals in connection to the incident who corroborated this version of events. In addition, Mr. Walker was overheard secretly discussing his ability to prevent Mr. Reid from being elected to the town board in the upcoming elections. We feel this is an abuse of power and that he is disregarding not only his duties as a public official, but that he is interfering with the electoral process in our town. We fell that the Mayor has not acted in our best interests, that he continues to flaunt his power as Mayor in an attempt to intimidate others, and the he has not acted in a manner consistent with the values of the Town of Palisade, which he purports to represent.
Mayor’s justification of his course in office:
From Mayor Dave Walker:
Please Vote No
As your fully engaged, duly elected mayor, I see no point in dignifying the above untrue accusations and disinformation with a response. I have, and will continue to stand up for our town, and what we have all accomplished. I stand on my record in office, the direction in which the town board and I have led and the strong financial standing of Palisade resulting from our stewardship. I have endeavored to serve with honor, integrity and fairness. We have important civic projects pending, and with the remainder of my term, I am dedicated to completing this vital, unfinished work, building a strong foundation for future prosperity. Together, we, as a caring community, have worked hard reviving and enriching our town over the past 6 years. Even in a challenging economy, our town has moved forward. This has been accomplished in a safe, responsible, respectable manner. We have a vibrant, sustainable town.
Our fund balance is healthy & secure.
We have an inviting business climate.
We have hired and retained the best town staff in Colorado.
We saved and protected our outstanding watershed, & rights for future generations.
Working with citizens, we developed a comprehensive plan to guide our future, limiting unwanted growth.
We renewed important local and regional partnership, funding the Palisade Chamber for the first time ever.
We are building and restoring town infrastructure, leveraging $1 of town funds for $10 of grant and partnership match, getting more, for less
All without one dollar of property tax increase.
Change is inevitable; it’s how we manage it that matters. What kind of town do you want to live in? I respectfully urge you to support the future of Palisade.
