Hautzinger to run again for DA in 2012

Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO)--The race for the District Attorney position has officially begun.

DA Pete Hautzinger announced he will be running again for the 2012 election.

Former Mesa County DA Steve Erkenbrack introduced Hautzinger to a crowd of people at Home Loan State Bank.

If elected this will be Hautzinger’s third and final term as the Mesa County District Attorney.

Hautzinger says he couldn't have run without his supporters behind him.

Hautzinger says, "To me the bottom line is that kind of support isn't about me personally it's about all the good work the all people in the office have been doing for the last eight years and that is what I'm grateful for and what I'm proud of."

Hautzinger told KKCO if re-elected he would continue his work on the war against meth and he also hopes to continue to offer internships to law school candidates

You are too tough on the DA's office! I'm not a big believer in all of the stupid, little laws and have found that when I get a ticket, the DA will dismiss all but one and drop the fees to nothing. You can tell that even the County DA’s think most of these laws are stupid and a waste of their time. If Pete keeps this up, perhaps we can get rid of some of those agencies cause they won't have anything to do!

He definitely is the ultimate switch hitter. I think his shoe wardrobe must be all flip flops. And yes, Mitt Romney is filing an injunction on brand encroachment.

He lost my vote before he ever had it. Plea bargain Pete? Yes, when it comes to meth-heads, and DWI drivers, murderers, and other hardcores. But when it comes to somebody peeing in the park, he throws the book at them and they have to register as a sex offender. The laws suck where that is concerned. And Pete uses them to step on the backs of people who don't deserve such stiff penalties.

If he gets the votes he needs, I will be convinced that this community is a heard of blind sheep. Lets keep turning our heads and let him think he is God.

Not sure what either of you, Taylor or Anonymous, is smoking. The grand jury handed up the indictments against the troopers, not Hautzinger. And if you don't want Hautzinger to serve a third term, don't vote for him. Pretty simple stuff.

You're right Matt. It is very simple. Spelled out in plain english, in fact. I was not agreeing in any with of anonymous' statement. I will very simply not vote for him unless every other option is worse. Three terms is two long in my opinion, and it doesn't take any smoking to decide that for myself. Pretty simple stuff.

He lost my vote when the ballot option for a third term in office was passed. That is too long in my opinion.

he lost my vote when he charged the 2 state patrolmen who MURDERED an unarmed man in his own home with trespassing.
