Greg Mikolai is an active member of the school board, serving since 2009.
Not only does he care about improving education at the kindergarten through 12th grade level, he also is actively improving university level education as a professor at Colorado Mesa University.
Mikolai teaches in the Mass Communications department and also produces videos for the university. He attended the University of Minnesota and the College of St. Thomas, receiving a degree in Mass Communications.
He also has two sons who attend District 51 high schools, one as a freshman and one as a senior.
Mikolai gives back to the community through the District 51 Foundation Board.
Going forward, Mikolai hopes to provide extra training for teachers to help reduce bullying, because students should never be afraid to attend school. He’d like to enlighten students on the implications of bullying and why they should report any problems they see.
He also intends to use his background in mass communications to provide an objective outlook on school board problems.
“I believe we must have balanced and objective decisions made that effect the education of children in the District 51,” says Mikolai. “I believe my approach to working on the board is just that.”
