John Sluder

John Sluder is a teacher, and as a school board member he would put teachers first.

As a computer networking and process control professor at the Western Colorado Community College, Sluder knows the importance of instruction.

He’s also seen the quality of District 51 teaching first-hand, with two children graduating from District 51 schools and two grandchildren currently in the system.

Even in giving back to the community he teaches, acting as an advisor for the Career Center and serving on the local advisory committee for Grand Junction PBS.

He is not only a teacher, though. Sluder is also a student, currently enrolled at Colorado Mesa University. This may be a beneficial duality, giving him the opportunity to see problems from both perspectives.

As a member of the school board, Sluder will focus on the budget. If it becomes necessary to cut corners, Sluder won’t be afraid to streamline services, eliminate waste, and make our existing programs more efficient in order to protect critical teaching jobs.

“I want to make sure our students are learning the necessary skills for their future careers in the 21st century,” says Sluder.
